DCASE Presents Downtown Sound at Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park (June 1, 2014)

It’s the inaugural night of the Downtown Sound concert series.  This year the series will take place on Mondays and Thursdays.  In essence, it is absorbing the former Thursday night series called Loops and Variations.  Tonight’s headliner is San Fermin from Brooklyn, New York.  This eight piece band fills the large stage with style.  The band consists of two lead singers, a violinist, trumpeter, saxophone player, keyboardist, guitarist, and a drummer.

Charlene Kaye displays her impressive vocal talent during their hit song, Sonsick. This song also features a fantastic brass build that gives you chills. Allen Tate’s vocal performance is impressive as well and sounds similar to the lead singer from The National.  During a lively instrumental, the trumpet player enters the crowd for a solo to the cheers of the audience.  Inspired by his warm reception, the lead singers follow the trumpet player’s lead and join the crowd for their final song. This is met with an equally enthusiastic reception.  Overall, it is a fantastic opening night for Downtown Sound.  View future Downtown Sound concerts here and catch as many of these free shows as you can!
