Adam and Evelyn meet in an art museum where Adam works. Their relationship progresses with Adam always seeming more invested than Evelyn. With her encouragement, he improves many things about himself including running, wearing contacts, and buying new clothes. These things all add up to her insisting he gets a nose job. How far will he go to please her while alienating his friends at the same time?
A shocking twist occurs towards the end that will stun you. It’s on par with the twists at the end of The Usual Suspects and Memento. You’ll be forced to consider the question, what is art? Is it just paintings and sculptures in an art museum? Does it include movies and theatre? Is it a subjective question? How far will artists go for their art?
The show ends with “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley playing. “Who do you think you are? Ha ha ha, bless your soul. You really think you’re in control?” It’s a fitting closing song to quite a crazy play produced fantastically by Eclectic Full Contact Theatre. See the final performances of The Shape of Things this weekend!
